Aims of the day
This is an area of the body that is often ignored, treated over-cautiously or pushed to the point of harm.  It requires a common-sense approach, based on an understanding of the structural anatomy.

This anatomy training day will focus on demystifying the region
and answer key questions such as:
Does the structure of the cervical and thoracic spines reveal how we should move? Do we ignore this information at our peril? Why do so many people have neck and upper back What can we learn by just looking at this spinal are? What role does stress play in neck and upper back pain? Which interventions are useful in yoga practice? Are there poses to avoid? The day will have both theoretical and practical components.

About Your Tutor
Les qualified as a yoga teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga in 1981. Later she embarked on a career in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, which is when her anatomy learning really started.  Understanding anatomy revolutionised the way she teaches, with a strong emphasis on safety and on healthy movement habits.   She worked in the NHS for 8 years and then slowly moved into developing her own private practice ‘Physio for yoga’.  Her major influences are Pete Blackaby (yoga teacher and osteopath) and Joanne Elphinston (physiotherapist and coach).  Les takes a very functional approach, weaving her physiotherapy knowledge into yoga asana.  Her style is honest, refreshing and entertaining.  Her enthusiasm for anatomy is infectious …. who knew anatomy could be so much fun?!
