Continuing Professional Development
What is Continuing Professional Development (CPD)?
CPD refers to the process of tracking and documenting your skills as a yoga teacher; knowledge and experience that you gain both formally and informally as you work, beyond your initial FRYOG Diploma.
FRYOG Members should add a brief note of any CPD attended – do this in the Member’s Area details.
Why is CPD important?
CPD is important because it demonstrates that you are committed to a constant process of self-improvement and it ensures that you continue to be competent in your profession. It is an on-going process and continues throughout a professional’s career.
What is the minimum requirement for FRYOG teachers?
Members of FRYOG must complete at least one CPD per year (January to December) in order to continue teaching as a FRYOG teacher. It is your responsibility to keep a record of any CPD you complete along with proof of attendance such as a certificate.
What can I do as CPD?
A list of FRYOG CPD days currently offered can be found HERE. They are run by experienced, approved FRYOG teachers and trainers.
Members can also attend CPD days arranged by yoga organisations other than FRYOG but to ensure they are suitable, details must be sent in advance of booking to the Training & Standards Officer, (contact details below). To qualify as CPD the day must be a minimum of 6 hours in duration and the content be on a subject that provides further skills to you as a Yoga Teacher and is not covered in the Foundation Course.
PLEASE NOTE Personal immersion days will not count as CPD; the content of the course must somehow further your knowledge as a teacher not as just your personal development as a yoga practitioner and evidence of this may be requested prior to approval.
What is a FRYOG Subsidised CPD Day?
FRYOG are now running subsidised CPD days to offer affordable training for those on limited budgets and to provide some value to our members. These CPD days are for FRYOG members only but are open to non-members upon purchase of a Friends of Yoga membership. They are run by the Area Officer in your region and part of the day’s agenda will be dedicated to discussions of any regional issues.
We welcome applications from our teachers with more than five years teaching experience, or from qualified teachers who are dual trained, e.g. midwives, doctors, physiotherapists, osteopaths, school teachers, etc. The Training & Standards Officer will be happy to receive applications and provide further information on the structure of running a sponsored CPD day.
Further details on your options for CPD are available from our Training Standards Officer
