Continuing Professional Development

What is Continuing Professional Development (CPD)?

CPD refers to the process of tracking and documenting your skills, knowledge and experience that you gain both formally and informally as you work as a yoga teacher, beyond your initial FRYOG Diploma.

FRYOG Members are required to keep their own record of any CPD they have attended. We recommend this is done in the Member’s Area of the website in My Details. Alternatively members can maintain a record manually in their own Reflective Diary.

Why is CPD important?

CPD is important because it demonstrates that you are committed to a constant process of self-improvement and it ensures that you continue to be competent in your profession. It is an on-going process and continues throughout a professional’s career.

What is the minimum requirement for FRYOG teachers?

Members of FRYOG must complete at least 6 hours of CPD per year (January to December) in order to continue teaching as a FRYOG teacher.  It is your responsibility to keep a record of any CPD you complete along with proof of attendance such as a certificate.

What can I do as CPD?

A list of FRYOG CPD days currently offered can be found HERE. They are run by experienced FRYOG teachers and trainers.

To determine whether a training offering is suitable to record as a CPD you should ask the question

“How does this make me a better teacher?”

You must ensure that the training you have undertaken adds value to you as a teacher. eg: the CPD must teach you something new that is of practical use in your teaching. Or deepen and broaden your knowledge to make you a more effective teacher.

Other options for CPD could include:

  • Courses on-line or delivered in person by reputable Yoga organisations
  • Research to add value to your teaching. A maximum of 2 points is allowed for this element
  • First Aid Training
  • Local Authority Educational Training, eg: Safeguarding, Prevent Training or Diversity Training
  • FRYOG Facebook members on-line courses eg: Anatomy by Aimee Newton.

The full CPD policy can be found HERE

What is a FRYOG Subsidised CPD Day?

FRYOG are now running subsidised CPD days to offer affordable training for those on limited budgets and to provide some value to our members. These CPD days are for FRYOG members only but are open to non-members upon purchase of a Friends of Yoga membership. They are run by the Area Officer in your region and part of the day’s agenda will be dedicated to discussions of any regional issues.

Below are some of the CPD days currently offered
